Public funding programs, such as those offered by the BMBF or BBSR, provide the opportunity to address research questions before they become consulting assignments—often in consortia with universities, associations, or other companies. Those who participate in these programs help shape new methods and standards from the very beginning, rather than simply applying them later on.
Grant-based research, however, requires specific expertise in grant applications and project management, which differs from that of a traditional consulting project.
